Background
For over 100 years, Johnson Gas Appliance Company has been a leader in gas technologies. Johnson Gas specializes in high-end luxury fireplaces through their Mendota Gas Fireplace line
and two burn green fireplace products, holographic fireplaces, and water vapor units through
their NetZero Fire product line. Johnson Gas also serves industrial manufacturers through their
heat treating, metal melting, and soldering furnaces.
Challenge
With Johnson Gas’s headquarters and main distribution point in Iowa, they were shipping
products to dealers and builders across the U.S. Johnson Gas had previously partnered with
freight brokers and regional transportation providers, but were looking for technology,
transparency, and a more comprehensive transportation strategy.
Solution
Johnson Gas began partnering with FreightWise. The FreightWise TMS platform integrated with
Johnson Gas’s Workwise ERP system via API, allowing connectivity to their warehouses,
financial systems, and more. FreightWise also provided managed transportation solutions
including LTL carrier contracting, parcel contract management, and audit and payment services.
Due to how the agreement was structured, Johnson Gas was able to know exactly what their
transportation spend and savings were for transparency.

With a complete view of Johnson Gas’s transportation costs and aligning those to specific
dealer shipments, Johnson Gas could correctly allocate all freight costs, including accessorial
